Electromagnets

Electromagnets are very simple devices. The idea is that if you run an electric current through a wire, it will create a magnetic field. This first electromagnet was created by William Sturgeon in 1825. Electromagnets can range in size from a single wire to a massive coil. The more coils there are equals a stronger magnetic field. Also, by using a ferromagnetic core you can bost the magnetic field even more. The main advantage of electromagnets is their ability to turn on and off, and being able to easily adjust their strength with the ammount of energy you put through the wire.

Internal Combustion Engine

The internal combustion engine the the most widely used engine in the world. It is the engine that runs almost every vehicle on the road today. The idea of internal combustion is using the explosive force of gasoline to drive a set of pistons which then creates rotational energy for use in a variety of applications. The first was created by J. J. Etienne Lenoir in 1859. His first two stroke engine could power his carriage which drove around slowly, but did the job. This sparked the fire of creation in the automobile industry.
